Volunteer Job Descriptions

  • MEDIA PRODUCTION AND COMMUNICATIONS

    All applicants who have applied as of this date will be subject to a background check in order to be formally credentialed. Students will be required to supply personal information such as a social security number and date of birth. This credential will ensure the volunteer the necessary access to specific volunteer areas. Students selected who apply after August 2 will be placed in volunteer areas that do not require a formal credential.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, and to be available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

    Applicants should choose one volunteer category and note the top three positions of interest. You may also note if you are interested in being an alternate or being randomly placed if all desired positions you've noted have been filled. Students will be placed in volunteer areas based upon their specific qualifications and on a first come, first served basis.

    While all volunteers may be called upon to assist with projects from September 19-27, those selecting Media Production or Debate Production volunteer opportunities must have flexible schedules during this time period.


    National News Media Volunteers

    Description
    National News Media volunteers provide administrative support. A limited number of volunteers will need a car to run errands. Volunteers should have an interest in pursuing a career in the media or have experience in this area.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

    All volunteers will be required to attend a training session prior to beginning their service. Volunteers must complete all required paperwork by the published due dates.

    Volunteer Managers will make every attempt to schedule volunteers appropriately. However, there may be times when a volunteer may not be fully utilized and/or assignments may change due to unforeseen circumstances.


    Production Assistants

    Production assistants help set up engineering support and staging aspects as well as provide administrative support. A limited number of volunteers will need a car to run errands. Volunteers should have an interest in pursuing a career in the media production field or have prior experience in this area.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

    All volunteers will be required to attend a training session prior to beginning their service. Volunteers must complete all required paperwork by the published due dates.

    Media File Center Volunteers

    Media File center volunteers provide administrative support. A limited number of volunteers will need a car to run errands.

    Communications Volunteers

    Communications volunteers - Volunteers with writing, photography and/or broadcast television experience are needed to work with the University's communications staff on publications and broadcast opportunities. Public relations, journalism or audio/video/film/photography experience preferred.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

  • EVENT OPERATIONS

    Security volunteers will assist with providing directions and general information along with any security needs and procedures of the CPD, Secret Service, local Police Departments and the Department of Public Safety.  Volunteers must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Volunteers are needed in the days prior to and the day of the debate.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

    Ticket Distribution Volunteers

    Ticket Distribution volunteers will assist with the distribution of debate tickets for students on the day of the event as well as provide assistance based on the needs of the CPD and the University.  Volunteers are needed in the days prior to and the day of the debate.  Volunteers may need to provide their own transportation to the Ticket Distribution site.

    Satellite Location Volunteers

    Satellite Location volunteers will assist at the campus "live-feed" satellite locations as well as provide assistance based on the needs of the CPD and the University.  Volunteers are needed in the days prior to and the day of the debate.

  • DEBATE PRODUCTION

    Credentialing Center Volunteers are needed to work in the media and visitor credentialing/welcome center, and will be responsible for check-in and general administrative duties, as well as providing directions and general information to guests. Volunteers must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure. The ability to multi-task is essential.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

    All volunteers will be required to attend a training session prior to beginning their service. Volunteers must complete all required paperwork by the published due dates.

    Commission on President Debates Office Volunteers

    Commission on Presidential Debates Office Volunteers provide administrative support (i.e., answer phones, send faxes, copy and deliver materials, etc.). Volunteers must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

    All volunteers will be required to attend a training session prior to beginning their service. Volunteers must complete all required paperwork by the published due dates.

    Volunteer Managers will make every attempt to schedule volunteers appropriately. However, there may be times when a volunteer may not be fully utilized and/or assignments may change due to unforeseen circumstances.


    Debate Hall Volunteers

    Debate Hall Volunteers may act as ushers, distribute programs and/or check credentials the day of the debate, Septemeber 26, 2016. Please note there are a very limited number of volunteer positions in this area. Serving as Debate Hall Volunteer does not guarantee access to the Debate Hall during the Debate.

    Volunteers may be asked to commit to both a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, as well as being available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.

  • GENERAL DEBATE 2016 VOLUNTEERS

Students selected who apply after August 3 will be placed in volunteer areas that do not require a formal credential.

    General Debate Volunteers will be assigned positions and responsibilities as needed. These may range from event coordination and logistics to hospitality and information positions. Volunteer Managers will make every attempt to schedule volunteers appropriately. However, there may be times when a volunteer may not be fully utilized and/or assignments may change due to unforeseen circumstances.
