A Message from the Dean of Admission

It has been an interesting week here at Hofstra, on Long Island, and in New York State, as we prepare for and combat the spread of the COVID 19 virus. Our Hofstra community has come together, to create innovative and humane solutions to quickly changing problems.  As difficult as it has been to watch the semester go online, seeing our faculty and staff spend time recreating and reinventing their courses and figuring out innovative ways to deliver education - while adjusting for the health of our students and community - has been heartening.

Still, there’s no doubt that the most difficult thing for us has been watching the end of the academic year, with its senior celebrations, honors, travel and perhaps even commencement, get cancelled or changed. There’s a good deal of loss for all of us right now. Give yourselves and your family time to process and adjust and think about the coming college year. If we all work together to #flattenthecurve, we hope and plan to be the Hofstra we all know and love come this summer and fall.

Our promise to you is as soon as our doors open again, we will be back with the same exceptional Hofstra experience we’ve always delivered. It is no exaggeration to say we are all looking forward to coming together as a community again!

For the class of 2020 (Hofstra Class of 2024):

  • As many of our peers have done, we will be moving our deposit deadline to June 1st. We hope this gives you time to visit our beautiful campus and meet us in person.
  • We are working with students to complete applications, using our test optional admission policy, in light of all the SAT/ACT test cancelations.  Learn more about our test optional policy.
  • We will be flexible with unofficial documents until we return to some degree of normalcy.  We know your high school professional staff are stressed, and it is our promise to WORK WITH YOU.  Don’t be too concerned about transcripts, final grades, AP’s, test scores. Together, we will figure it out.
  • Most important, we are here!  Socially isolating in the office, or online and offsite, we are creating virtual experiences for you to meet our students, to ask questions, and to engage with us from your homes.
    • Check out hofstra.edu/visit for the virtual visit opportunities we have coming up.
    • ZeeMee is a great way for students to connect with each other and learn about Hofstra. Search for us on ZeeMee.com

These are trying times, but together, the Hofstra family – and your family - will get through it. Our students are our pride and purpose and we hope you will be a member of our Hofstra Pride come the fall. We send you our best luck and wishes, and hope that we meet you, either virtually or in person, soon!
