Master of Arts in Spanish
Dear Prospective M.A. Student
If you have a strong reading and writing ability in Spanish and an interest in furthering your proficiency in the language we would like for you to consider Hofstra’s Master of Arts in Spanish Studies. You do not need to have majored or minored in Spanish as an undergraduate in order to apply.
Students who receive their M.A. in Spanish Studies are able to apply their degree to a variety of professional areas:
- Education
- Government
- Communications (broadcasting and print journalism)
- Publishing
- Law
- Business
- Social Services
- Health and Medicine
Our graduates work as teachers, editors, translators in the court system, business managers and realtors. They work in government and for the United Nations. The M.A. in Spanish Studies also provides an excellent basis for pursuing doctoral work in a number of fields.
At Hofstra we offer an M.A. that is designed to accommodate people working full-time, who need convenient and flexible schedules. Our graduate classes are offered in the evening, typically three nights a week for a full-time graduate student. Part-time studies are also accommodated.
We offer a variety of courses every semester in language and grammar, at a professional or advanced level. There are classes in the cultures of Latin America, Spain and the Hispanic world at large, courses in cultural criticism, in literature and cultural history. We draw on the expertise of a large number of accomplished faculty members with international reputations in the field.
Our Master of Arts program may be completed in as little as 18 months. In addition to the on-campus courses scheduled during the fall, spring and summer, we also offer graduate credit for our highly successful study abroad programs to Spain and Latin America every June and July. Hofstra is the only University on Long Island to offer summer study abroad programs, giving students a fast and enjoyable way to earn credits during what is typically an off-peak time of year for educators and those in other professions.
Feel free to send us an e-mail or give us a call. We will be happy to mail you a brochure with additional program information. Best wishes in your future career decisions.
Sincerely,
