The Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center is located on the north side of campus and is one of the focal points for campus life and activities. It is home to the Student Center Café, meeting rooms, student clubs and organizations, administrative offices, a theater and the Hofstra University Bookstore, where you can pick up not only books, but also convenience items and, of course, an array of Hofstra swag. The Student Center also offers on-campus ATMs.
The Student Center houses HX Salon (a full-service salon for men and women), the Office of Event Management, Conference Services, and the Hofstra Game Room.
The University's Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success hosts many events in the Student Center, as well as housing many offices and resources here, including Off-Campus Living and Commuting Student Services, which offers lockers; Student Leadership and Engagement; Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion; Student Access Services; HofstraCard Services; the Interfaith Center; and the Dean of Students Hallway, which includes Student Wellness Education, and the Dean of Students Office.
The atrium in the Student Center is a hub for activity, especially during the fall and spring semesters. On Wednesdays during common hour (11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.), different student organizations and advocacy groups set up display tables to share information. The atrium was also the stage for Hofstra's launch of the national It's On Us campaign to prevent sexual assault, and is home to Hofstra's annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser to support pediatric cancer research.
Another annual tradition, Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays, takes place in the Student Center's main dining room. This Hofstra tradition works to educate the Hofstra community about the various holidays and traditions that are celebrated worldwide. Student clubs and organizations paint the Student Center windows to display their interpretation of global holiday traditions. They create crafts in front of each window and invite local groups such as the Hempstead Boys and Girls Club to join them.
Late Night Breakfast, which draws more than 1,000 students annually at the end of each semester during finals week, is served in the Student Center Café. And the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success hosts its annual Student Leadership Awards and the annual Senior Class Toast for graduating seniors and their families in the main dining room.
