I don't think I could have planned a better senior year as a broadcast journalism major – the 2008 elections. Educate 08 at Hofstra University is like journalistic heaven for me. Last year, I had the honor of reporting live from the New Hampshire Primaries interviewing politicians like Bill Richardson and John Edwards. With Educate 08, being proactive meant the sky is the limit in terms of political experiences, and WRHU paved the way for pre-professional development. I competed in San Francisco for the National Hearst Championships, and now RTNDA is sending me to Las Vegas to meet every News Director in the country. How many college journalists have the opportunity to travel and report like that? Not many.
Just a few weeks ago, I had the honor and the privilege of reporting live from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO. I remember sitting at Invesco Field watching history unravel as Sen. Barrack Obama gave his acceptance speech. I felt like I was flipping through a history textbook watching as the pages were being printed. I reported that "it was like a snow globe of flashing cameras and waving flags." I had the chance to interview New York Sen. Charles Schumer, Gov. Bill Richardson and Sen. John Kerry. I will never forget that feeling.
Not only have I had the opportunities to travel and learn, but I've also had the opportunity of attending several Educate 08 forums and seminars to learn more about the history I am witnessing. I could not have chosen a better school to pursue my dreams. Hofstra University is it.
