Since the launch of Educate '08, I have had the pleasure of attending many events and obtaining many opportunities. Among those is the trip to New
Hampshire for the January 8, 2008 primary in that state. Witnessing what is
essentially democracy at it's finest first hand, meeting and attending the speeches of the major presidential candidates and being surrounded by very like-minded individuals dedicated to being politically active is something I treasure very much.
The Super Tuesday Primary Returns Party at Dempster Hall on February 5 was really eye-opening. The amount of people there engaged in this historic election, the coverage it received from the local newspapers and TV stations, and the atmosphere that was created as a result made the event feel more like being a kid in a political candy store rather than a simple event on a college campus.
Having these experiences happen on this campus means a lot to me and to my future. I hope to become a journalist someday or at least a respected political commentator, and seeing those who are where I want to be in the future come to Hofstra, share their experiences and give us pointers on what to do next helps me to figure out which road I need to take in order to make sure I am where I want to me 5, 10, 15 years from now.
