Hofstra University Certificate in Inclusive Leadership Program

The Hofstra University Certificate in Inclusive Leadership Program is designed to equip leadersin both the public and private sectors with evidence-based strategies to drive organizationaltransformation through Equity-Driven Leadership initiatives. Recognizing the New York StateBoard of Regents’ call for action-oriented plans to ensure access and opportunity for allstakeholders, this leadership certification program will equip participants with the tools andstrategies to increase capacity, drive change, and build effective teams to create sustainableand equitable systems. This program supports organizations in aligning with best practices,regulatory requirements, and institutional strategic goals.

Program Objectives:

  • Develop Systemic and Sustainable Equity Solutions
    • Identify and implement scalable, high-impact strategies that leverage accessibility, equity, inclusion, and belonging in school districts, corporations, and community organizations.
  • Build Capacity
    • Strengthen leadership capabilities to navigate resistance and foster organizational buy-in that transforms culture and institutional effectiveness.
  • Create & Lead Effective Teams
    • Build a network of equity-driven leaders who can champion and operationalize inclusive policies, drive data-informed decision-making, and cultivate a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Participant Outcomes:

By completing the program, participants will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of intercultural organizational relationships via various frameworks.
  • Learn how to apply an equity lens to organizational policies, decision-making, and leadership practices.
  • Analyze case studies and scenarios that highlight systemic barriers and innovative solutions in education and workplace settings.
  • Review and evaluate successful equity frameworks, strategic plans, and assessment rubrics for improving inclusion and belonging.
  • Create a customized action plan for embedding inclusive leadership within their organization, school, or district.

This immersive, leadership-driven program will position participants as proactive, high-impact change agents, ensuring they develop and sustain equitable practices.

Session Descriptions:

Session 1: Framing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) in Our Current Climates
Presenter: Dr. Cornell Craig
This course will define key terminology and theory. Participants will engage with historical trends and impacts on school communities through case studies and primary source material.

Session 2: How Can We Communicate Better? Understanding the Impact of Bias and Microaggressions in Our Systems
Presenter: April Francis-Taylor
This course will define implicit/explicit bias and microaggressions. Participants will understand intent vs. impact and explore ways to disrupt bias within the school environment.

Session 3: Creating Welcoming and Affirming Environments
Presenter: Dr. Aisha Wilson-Carter
This workshop will unpack stereotypes, bias, and historical implications. Participants will explore best practices for creating safe, welcoming, and affirming environments, particularly by building capacity and leading through change. Participants will review and brainstorm specific actions leadership can take to create and leverage buy-in.

Session 4: What You Need to Know About... Title IX, ADA, and Discrimination
Presenter: Dr. Cornell Craig
This workshop will focus on understanding Title IX and its implications for all students, particularly students from traditionally marginalized groups.

Session 5: Creating Sustainable Culturally Responsive Systems
Presenter: April Francis-Taylor
This workshop will define culturally responsive education and review the history and theory behind it. Participants will review various frameworks, such as the NYSED CR-S Education Framework, and analyze how these impact organizational systems.

Session 6: Developing Equitable and Accessible Strategies and Initiatives
Presenter: Dr. Aisha Wilson-Carter
This workshop will allow participants to define equity and access. They will explore sample audits, rubrics, data gathering, and case studies to develop an equity lens for education. Participants will learn strategies to engage both internal and external stakeholders.

Session 7: Capstone Experience
Presenters: Dr. Cornell Craig, Dr. Aisha Wilson-Carter, April Francis-Taylor
During this workshop, participants will share their drafted equity plans with fellow cohort members.
