Hofstra University Certificate in Inclusive Leadership Program
The Hofstra University Certificate in Inclusive Leadership Program provides evidence-based skills and practices that advance equity, inclusion, and belonging in school districts and organizations. The New York State Board of Regents recommends that educational institutions develop action-oriented plans to create access and opportunities for all stakeholders. This leadership certification program will equip participants with the tools and strategies to increase capacity, drive change, and build effective teams to create sustainable and equitable systems.

This course will define diversity, equity, inclusion, and other key terminology and theory. Through a social justice lens, participants will discuss historical trends and impacts on school communities through case studies and primary source material.
Session 2: How Can We Communicate Better? Understanding the Impact of Bias and Micro-aggressions in our Systems
Presenter: April Francis-Taylor
This course will define implicit/explicit bias and micro-aggressions. Participants will understand intent vs. impact, and ways to disrupt in the school environment.
Session 3: Creating Welcoming and Affirming Environments Around Gender Identity
Presenter: Dr. Wellinthon Garcia-Mathews
This workshop will explore gender identity and sexual orientation. It will unpack stereotypes, bias, and historical implications. It will then discuss how schools can create safe, welcoming, and affirming environments, particularly members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender communities, as well as specific actions that can be taken by individuals and groups to become allies and create Safe zones.
Session 4: What you Need to Know About...Title IX, ADA, and Discrimination
Presenter: Dr. Wellinthon Garcia-Mathews
This workshop will define culturally responsive education and review the history and theory behind it. Participants will review various frameworks, such as the NYSED CR-S Education Framework, and analyze how this will impact their school system.
Session 5: Creating Sustainable Culturally Responsive Systems
Presenter: April Francis-Taylor
This workshop will focus on understanding Title IX and its implications on all students, specifically students from marginalized groups.
Session 6: Developing Equitable and Accessible Strategies and Initiatives
Presenter: Dr. Aisha Wilson-Carter
This workshop will allow participants to define equity and access. Participants will explore sample audits, rubrics, data gathering, and case studies to develop an equity lens for education. Participants will learn strategies to engage families and the community and empower student voices.
Session 7: Capstone Experience

During this workshop, participants will share their drafted equity plan with fellow cohort members.

Objectives:
- To address issues and create solutions around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (this includes, but is notlimited to, race, national origin, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, age, religion, and socio-economic status) within communities.
- To develop sustainable systems and structures in regional school districts around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- To create a network of knowledgeable equity leaders within the region.
Participants Will:
- Understand terms and theories associated with diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive education.
- Review sample equity in education frameworks/rubrics/plans.
- Develop an equity lens through case studies and scenarios.
- Create an organization, school and/or district action plan around equity for implementation.
