in cooperation with the Jimmy Carter Library and The Carter Center, Atlanta, GeorgiaThe Hofstra Cultural Center presented its eighth presidential conference, Jimmy Carter: Keeping Faith, on November 15, 16, 17, 1990. Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States. The conference examined both the record of the Carter Presidency as well as Carter's accomplishments towards his country and mankind after his term was over.
A highlight of the conference was the participation of President Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter. In addition to a Town Meeting, they also took part in a Colloquium for local high school students.
Stuart Eizenstat, Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs and Policy; Hamilton Jordan, Chief of Staff; and Jody Powell, Press Secretary to the President; were among the many former members of the Carter Administration who attended. The banquet speaker was Robert S. Strauss, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, 1973-1976. On the last day of the conference, ten members of the Carter Administration gathered as part of the panel "Staff Reminiscences."
Some of the panel topics included "Conceptions of the Presidency," "Energy Policy," "The Middle East Peace Process," "The Panama Canal Treaties," "The Role of Religion," "The First Lady," "Civil Service Reform, " "Iran Hostage Crisis," and "The Post Presidency and The Carter Center."
In addition, there was also a Hofstra Museum exhibition of books, manuscripts, photographs and political memorablia, Jimmy Carter: From Plains, Georgia to The White House, in the David Filderman Gallery on the ninth floor of the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library.

After the conference papers and presentations were complied into two books published by Greenwood Press in 1993. The Presidency and Domestic Policies of Jimmy Carter was edited by Herbert D. Rosenbaum and Alexej Ugrinsky and is available for $120. Jimmy Carter: Foreign Policy and Post-Presidential Years, edited by Herbert D. Rosenbaum and Alexej Ugrinsky is available for $90.
