Rubén Darío: 90 Years Later
October 27 and 28, 2006
Ninety years after his death in 1916, Rubén Darío continues to be a momumental presence in Hispanic literature. As Borges explains, "Darío changed everything... His work is not done, nor shall it ever be done. Those of us who have at one time struggled with him know that we carry on his legacy today. We can indeed call him a liberator." In that spirit, Hofstra University is proud to announce this important academic conference in honor of one of the great poetic innovators in the Spanish language.
Some of the topics that will be covered during the symposium include:
- The contributions of Modernismo: confluences and contradictions
- Rubén Darío and Delmira Agustini
- Biographical approaches to Rubén Darío
- Darío abroad: Spain, France and the United States
- Darío and the modernistas
- Darío's poetry in the academy today
- Darío and the literature of the fantastic
- Darío and Los Raros
- Darío and Garcilaso: two poetic revolutionaries
