WRHU Mission:
Professional Broadcast Training For Hofstra Students
At WRHU students polish broadcasting/social media skills in multimedia studios with industry standard technology. Students create a variety of content (news, talk, public affairs, music, and sports). Students converge audio/radio play-by-play with video creating multiplatform (mobile/web/broadcast) live game content for Hofstra D1 teams and NBA G-League Long Island Nets. Students produce and distribute all NY Islanders live NHL games to ESPN Radio NYC, Sirius/XM, NHL.com, WRCN FM, and WRHU FM. Students produce and perform on-air roles for the Long Island Ducks baseball franchise and the NY Riptide pro box lacrosse team. Students report live from political rallies, breaking news events, and music festivals. In-house professionals mentor students. Students produce and host shows like Hofstra Morning Wake Up Call and Newsline.
WRHU is proud to partner with the SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) to develop top-quality tech talent (aspiring Chief Engineers) for radio stations, clusters, and networks. Many professional radio engineers visit WRHU to inspire and teach students at our “Tech Thursday” mentoring sessions.
Visit the WRHU main office and you will find the WABC TV (channel 7 New York City) Eyewitness News Long Island Bureau – one of many productive, inspirational educational partnerships and affiliations that students broadcasters at WRHU experience.
