Hofstra accepts transfer students to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program.

Hofstra University has launched a four-year Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing degree program that will provide the educational, clinical, and experiential base for entry-level professional practice, as well as the platform on which to build a career through graduate-level study and lifelong learning.

Hofstra Northwell Connection

Hofstra’s undergraduate nursing program leverages the clinical and educational resources of both Hofstra University and Northwell Health, New York state’s largest healthcare provider and private employer. The program is the latest collaboration in the academic-practice partnership between the two institutions following the establishment of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. Students work directly with faculty to be set up in a clinical placement with one of our partner Northwell facilities. Observations in the healthcare setting begin as early as your first year.

Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, North Shore University Hospital, Huntington Hospital, and South Oaks Hospital

General Transfer Admission Requirements

  • Students interested in transferring into Hofstra’s nursing program are subject to all policies related to Hofstra University's transfer credit policy for all non-major requirements.
  • Transfer students may request an interview for an evaluation of credits before they file an application. Transfer students who do not have an associate degree or higher must submit a copy of their high school transcript as proof of high school graduation.
  • Transfer students must be in good academic standing at their previous college in order to be accepted into the nursing program, carrying a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 in previous coursework to be considered, and have taken at least secondary school biology and chemistry in recent years. The program is highly selective, and a 2.75 GPA does not guarantee admission.

Requirements for Consideration for Transfer Admission to BS in Nursing

  • A grade of “C+” or higher is required for all anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and nursing transfer credits (pre-licensure only).
  • Students transferring credit for pharmacology and pathophysiology must have a grade of “B+” or higher and are required to demonstrate competency on a written examination.
  • Pre-licensure nursing coursework must have been completed within the past five years and be from a baccalaureate level program to be considered for transfer credit or for degree completion.
  • Transfer credit will not be awarded for any clinical nursing course.
  • Courses transferring in for credit for microbiology, general biology, chemistry or anatomy and physiology must have been completed within 7 years of the date of enrollment or re-entry.
  • Sciences courses older than 7 years of date may not be transferred in for credit but may be considered for progression. Science courses older than 10 years will need to be retaken.
  • Biology and chemistry transfer courses must include a lab component in order to be considered for transfer credit or for degree completion.
  • Please note: Hofstra's academic programming requires a minimum of 3 years of full-time study to complete the BS in Nursing. This may affect students' timelines for completing their overall undergraduate degree as well as impact their scholarship allocations.

The priority deadline to apply for transfer into Hofstra's nursing program is March 1, 2025. While we will review applications after this, we recommend submitting by the March 1, 2025, priority deadline. Applications can be submitted via the Common Application or Hofstra’s Transfer Application.

  • The Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing is a direct-entry program. Students must indicate a major of nursing on their application to be considered.
  • Applicants may apply with test optional admission.
  • Applicants may be asked to take part in an interview prior to receiving an admission decision.
  • Admission to this program is highly selective with limited seating offered. Please keep in mind that seats may fill prior to the deadline.
