One of the most vibrant cities in the world is just a train ride away from Hofstra's campus. There is plenty to explore in New York City during your years at Hofstra, so be sure to take advantage of these cool activities you can do for FREE in NYC once you get there!

Central Park

Relax and spend the day in Central Park! Throw a Frisbee on the Great Lawn, jog around the Reservoir, find where your favorite movie was filmed, or hang out in Belvedere Castle.  The possibilities are endless!  There are even free concerts all throughout the summer.
How to get there:
-Take the Hofstra Shuttle to the Mineola train station.
-Take the LIRR to Penn Station.
-Walk up 7th Avenue until you reach the Park!

Times Square

People all over the world dream of going to Times Square, so here’s your chance! In addition to checking out all of the cool stores, you might want to go into the Times Square Visitor Center, where you will be able to see a previous year’s New Year’s Ball up close.
How to get there:
-Take the Hofstra Shuttle to the Mineola train station.
-Take the LIRR to Penn Station.
-Walk up 7th Avenue until you see the lights!

Grand Central Terminal

One of the most beautiful places in the city, Grand Central Terminal, has been operating for 100 years. The architecture is not to be missed!
How to get there:
-Take the Hofstra Shuttle to Mineola train station.
-Take the LIRR to Penn Station.
-Take the subway (1 train Uptown) from Penn to Times Square.
-Take the subway's S shuttle or 7 train to Grand Central Terminal.

New York Public Library

Explore the New York Public Library Main Branch. The stunning architecture and beautiful Rose Main Reading Room are treasures. Many movies and TV shows have been filmed here. You might just leave humming “Who ya gonna call?...”
How to get there:
-Take the Hofstra Shuttle to the Mineola train station.
-Take the LIRR to Penn Station.
-Walk up 7th Avenue.
-Make a right on 34th Street
-Turn left onto 5th Avenue
OR
-Take the subway (1 train Uptown) from Penn Station to 42nd Street, and then walk across.

Bryant Park

Located right behind the New York Public Library, Bryant Park is a great place to grab lunch and relax on the grass. In the summer months, there are often free Broadway performances.  During the winter, there is an ice skating rink located here as well. 
How to get there:
-Take the Hofstra Shuttle to  the Mineola train station.
-Take the LIRR to Penn Station.
-Walk up 7th Avenue.
-Make a right on 40th Street
OR
-Take the subway (1 train Uptown) from Penn Station to 42nd Street, and then walk across.

Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center is home to the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and ice-skating rink in the winter. For a fee, you can also tour the NBC Studios or go to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck and overlook the city. 
How to get there:
-Take the Hofstra Shuttle to the Mineola train station.
-Take the LIRR to Penn Station.
-Take the subway (the 1 or F trains Uptown) to 50th Street and Broadway.
-Walk west on 50th Street.

High Line

The High Line on Manhattan’s West Side is an elevated public park built on an old freight rail line. There are hundreds of species of plants to be seen as you stroll above the city.

Brooklyn Bridge

Connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Bridge is a popular place for a walk or bike ride. There are walking paths that allow you to take in the view of the skyline as you walk across this historic landmark.

Many TV shows that tape in New York City have a policy of giving out free tickets to be in the live audience. Be sure to check the website of each show you’re looking to catch.

Many Broadway shows have Student Rush tickets or Standing Room Only tickets at huge discounts on the day of the show.
