Proposals to conduct research involving the use of live non-human vertebrates, post birth or hatching (on campus or in field studies), should be submitted to the University's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), headed by Dr. Christopher B. Boyko. Dr. Boyko can be reached at 516-463-5530. In its review of protocols involving animals, the University's IACUC will evaluate the number of animals to be used, the selection of species, and the animals' possible exposure to discomfort and pain. Animal use review and approval is generally governed by regulations outlined in the NIH publication Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
Separate from the Animal Care and Use Committee is the animal care facility. For information regarding the day-to-day operations of this facility, or special needs you may have in your research, please contact Dr. Boyko at 516-463-5530.
Important Notice: IACUC approval is necessary for all projects involving vertebrate animals and is not limited to projects funded through external grants.
