Welcome to the Department of Physician Assistant Studies’ graduate phase at Hofstra University! The faculty and staff look forward to working
with you over the next few years.
Below you will find dates, deadlines, and tasks that you need to prepare for before joining us in September. Some of the items require the completion and submission of forms. In all cases, please follow the instructions, and pay careful attention to the deadlines and details. Information on this page is updated periodically and should be checked regularly. If information is not currently under a heading, please check back continuously.

A hard copy of all submitted items is to be kept for your personal files. Copies of these items will be needed later in the program and for professional use.

  • Checklist
    Please use this checklist as a means for ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Orientation
    The orientation schedule will be released closer to the start of the program.
  • Activate your Hofstra network account
    Follow the directions on the IT website to activate your Hofstra network account using your Hofstra ID number. Use the portal to pay your tuition deposit (if required), access your Hofstra email account, view your course schedule and tuition bill, and more. Any questions should be made to the IT Help Desk at 516-463-7777.
  • Registration
    Information regarding registration instructions can be found at the Online Registration webpage. To register, you will need your Hofstra ID number (the 9-digit 700#). Pay special attention to the CRN numbers. The CRN number is the 5-digit number in the first column below. If you have any questions or are experiencing any difficulty, please contact the Office of the Registrar and Academic Records at 516-463-8000, option 2. Due April 1.

  • NYSSPA Membership
    Please join the New York State Society of Physician Assistants by April 30, as a PA student member and send proof of membership (the digital membership card) via email (PDF) to Sasha Khan at Sasha.A.Khan@hofstra.edu.
  • AAPA Membership
    Please join the American Academy of Physician Assistants by April 30, as a student member and send proof of membership (the digital membership card) via email (PDF) to Sasha Khan at Sasha.A.Khan@hofstra.edu.
  • Exam Master
    Multiple choice examinations are conducted through Exam Master, a computerized testing system. Please see the attached memo for login instructions and register with Exam Master by April 30. Please be sure to use your Hofstra email to log into Exam Master. We recommend that you take a practice exam to become familiar with the product prior to the beginning of classes. The faculty will notify you as to when a faculty-assigned exam will be available.
  • HIPPA
    HIPAA certification must be completed online. Please select “Individual,” then the “Awareness” course only. Be sure to keep a copy of the certificate for your records, as you will need it for employment as a PA and for clinical clerkships. Please forward the certificate of completion by May 30 to Sasha Khan at Sasha.A.Khan@hofstra.edu.
    Note: If you already have HIPAA healthcare provider certification through your employer that has 1 year or more to expire, please send in a copy of that certificate. It must have an expiration date or statement of expiration.
  • Infection Control
    Infection control training must be completed online by May 30. Be sure to keep a copy of the certificate for your records, as you will need it for employment as a PA and for clinical clerkships. The certificate of completion will automatically be forwarded to the program when you complete the course. Therefore, you do not send a copy to the program. The New York state-mandated Infection Control Training is offered online at www.icprofessor.com/icny. Hofstra PA students are eligible for a discounted registration rate, provided you use your Hofstra Pride account.
  • Textbooks
    Faculty will be sending this information to you during the summer.
  • Required Program Healthcare Documents
    Deadline – June 30. All instructions can be found on the document by clicking the link above. Follow all directions precisely. All students must retain a hard copy of all medical forms to keep in their personal files.
  • Official Transcripts
    Please note, if a transcript was already verified and you took an additional course(s) at the same school or your degree was not conferred, an official transcript must be sent in. Remember that official transcripts must be sent directly from the Registrar's Office of the institution. Any coursework taken at Hofstra University does not have to be submitted. If your degree is conferred, verified by CASPA and you have not taken any additional course(s), then you do not have to send us your transcript(s). Transcripts are due by July 15. Pay attention to e-mails from the Department of Graduate Admission. CASPA keeps all documents.

  • Documentation of Healthcare Hours
    If you have not already done so, please forward documentation of your healthcare hours to the program. On institutional letterhead, the preceptor or employer should document total hours, with a brief description of duties and responsibilities. The document should be printed, signed (handwritten) and name printed below, with credentials. Please submit total hours only and not a list of hours/shifts worked. Please forward the documentation of completion (PDF format) to Sasha Khan at Sasha.A.Khan@hofstra.edu or by mail by July 15.
    Dual-degree students – As per the dual-degree student handbook, you must forward documented hours to the dual-degree coordinator by the end of the spring semester of the junior year.
  • Medical Terminology
    All students must complete this medical terminology course online. Please purchase and complete the course certificate titled "Medical Terminology 201" – it must be the course with a CEU certificate. Due July 15. Please forward the certificate of completion to Sasha Khan at Sasha.A.Khan@hofstra.edu.
  • Medical Instruments/Equipment
    Please obtain a stethoscope, diagnostic set – ophthalmoscope/otoscope – and short jacket. Several websites, as well as information regarding group ordering, are listed at the link below. Please click on the links below for instrument and ordering details. It is suggested to purchase the white jacket in person for sizing. Order must be placed by July 15th.
  • Supply Kit (MEA)
    The program has compiled a backpack full of supplies needed throughout the program into one kit through Medical Equipment Affiliates. It contains numerous items such as casting and suture material, needles, syringes, and blood pressure cuff. The kit must be ordered by July 15th. Instructions for ordering items such as a stethoscope and ophthalmoscope are separate from the supply kit and listed above. Timely ordering is important, as the kits will be sent to the PA program office and distributed during orientation.
  • Poll Everywhere Interactive Response Application
    Information will be given, closer to or on, the first day of class
  • Proof of Health Insurance
    Health insurance is mandatory. Students must submit proof of health insurance to the PA program by August 15th. A copy of the insurance card – both back and front – is required. Please submit this to Sasha Khan at Sasha.A.Khan@hofstra.edu.
    The insurance policy must provide coverage in the event of illness or injury resulting from patient care. Information about health insurance can be obtained from the Health and Wellness Center at 516-463-6745.
  • Student ID
    Specific dates for PA students TBA. After August 1: Please visit the office of Campus Access and Security Systems in Room 110 Mack Student Center, North Campus, to obtain your ‘graduate PA student’ Hofstra ID card. This is your personal identification card and is needed to gain access to facilities, PridePrint, and many other services. If you are a Hofstra dual-degree student, you may need a new card. Because of the volume of students attempting to acquire their ID cards on the 1st day of classes, please try to have this done prior to the first day of the program start or orientation.
  • Graduate Student Housing
    View available on and off-campus housing options by clicking the link above and visiting the Office of Residential Life.
  • Parking Permits
    Please obtain your parking permit by registering your vehicle in the link above. Please follow all directions. Due by orientation.
    Please read all the information on this page. It contains valuable information regarding parking lots, etc. The David S. Mack Public Safety and Information Center, South Campus, is located at the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and California Avenue.
