Percussion

The Hofstra University percussion faculty believes in a well-rounded music education in many performing styles, from popular music to contemporary classical percussion. Each of our instructors has many years of professional performing and teaching experience.

As a percussion student at Hofstra you can take advantage of the numerous performing ensembles, including the Symphonic BandWind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. In addition to these major ensembles, percussion students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Percussion Ensemble. This group performs classic percussion ensemble repertoire and explores different areas of world music and contemporary compositions.

Hofstra University's proximity to New York City allows students to take advantage of the seemingly unlimited musical events that take place there every day.

Percussion Ensemble

The Hofstra University Percussion Ensemble is dedicated to the performance of classic percussion repertoire, world music, and contemporary compositions. In addition to exposure to a variety of repertoire and styles, students work in the areas of ensemble rehearsal techniques, quality sound production, and technical and musical problem-solving. The group teaches many principles of music performance that can be used in any other ensemble.

Previous semesters' highlights included a master class by the New York Percussion Quartet and a performance by the Hofstra Percussion Ensemble featuring the music of Brazil.
