Program Mission
Training professionals through competency-based didactic and clinical instruction. The program strives for academic excellence and aims to provide a quality education to its students in an environment that encourages, nurtures, and supports learning. Students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to become reflective health care practitioners, researchers, educators, advocates and leaders in an evolving health care environment. Graduates will be able to apply athletic training theory, ethics, and evidence-based patient-centered clinical practice to diverse individuals throughout the lifespan. Graduates will be dedicated to improving the health of their patients and advocating for their patients and the profession.

The MSAT program aims to develop students as health care professionals fully committed to the promotion of patient-centered care, the Board of Certification Standards of Professional Practice, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics, and their role as life-long learners.
Program Goals and Outcomes
- Goal 1: Successfully prepare qualified athletic training scholarly-practitioners
- Goal 2: Cultivate students as responsible and ethical researchers, educators, advocates and leaders in the field of Athletic Training. Encourage students to be active citizens and contributors to their local, national and global communities.
- Goal 3: Cultivate students as socially and ethically responsible Athletic Trainers who practice in a manner that is free of discrimination or prejudice, culturally competent, respectful of the contributions and dignity of others, and consistent with the expectations of the Athletic Training Program, University, the NATA Code of Ethics and BOC Standards of Professional Practice.
- Goal 4: Retain and graduate highly qualified and diverse students for participation in the Athletic Training Program. Recruit diverse faculty and preceptors to serve as Athletic Training educators, mentors and role-models.
Facilities
Students enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program will have access to a variety of facilities here at Hofstra University and in the local area that will assist with the acquisition of the necessary knowledge and skills needed to be a successful athletic trainer upon graduation.
On-Campus Facilities
- A majority of Athletic Training major courses will take place in the Hofstra Dome. Along with classrooms that include SMART Board technology students will have access to the Athletic Training Education Lab and the Exercise Physiology Lab.
- The Athletic Training Education Lab contains evaluation tables, current therapeutic modalities and other key equipment and supplies.
- The Exercise Physiology Lab contains equipment necessary to assess VO2 max and other and other fitness assessments.
- Students will also gain clinical experiences within Hofstra University Department of Athletics in their various clinical facilities. There are currently three facilities on campus: Margiotta Hall, the Physical Education Center, and the Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Off-Campus Facilities
A various times during your enrollment in the Athletic Training Program you may be required to gain clinical education experience at a local clinical affiliation. The sites could include other colleges, high schools, physical therapy clinics, medical offices and professional sports teams. Get more detailed information on our current clinical affiliations page.
