Students do the first two semesters of internship at Hofstra’s on-campus Counseling and Mental Health Professions Clinic, located on campus in the Saltzman Center. This setting provides students with the close supervision and support necessary to develop confidence at the earliest stage of their clinical career.
As students approach the end of their time at the Saltzman Center, students are placed in off-campus clinical settings, which have been approved by the Marriage and Family Therapy program. Students do the final two semesters of internship at one of these sites, which are typical of the kinds of sites that employ marriage and family therapists. Currently, the sites at which our students do their off-campus internships include:
- Child welfare agencies
- Community mental health agencies
- Hospitals
- Private practices
- Substance abuse clinics
The 300 client-contact hours accrued by students during their internships count toward the 1,500 total client contact hours required for licensure.
