Celebrating the Inauguration of Susan Poser

Hofstra University hosted a week of events to celebrate the inauguration of Dr. Susan Poser as its ninth president, including symposia, service projects, a prom, a barbecue featuring restaurants from the local community, the annual Alumni Awards dinner and the Fall Fest outdoor music festival and carnival.

Artist, Painting in honor of the inauguration of President Susan Poser

Kelly Elkowitz is a senior fine arts major with a minor in political science at Hofstra University. Her art integrates abstraction with the figure, emphasizing construction and found materials. Her 2021 departmental end-of-year exhibit painting won Hofstra’s Presidential Purchase Award.

Elkowitz provided the following thoughts on the painting:

“Overall, the composition is meant to evoke an optimistic and hopeful tone, with the flowers looking up toward the future and the sunlight above. Spring often represents something new and hopeful to come, so I felt flowers in bloom would be perfect to welcome our new president, Dr. Poser.
