Prisha Srivastava took a big leap of faith when she left California to attend Hofstra University. But once she arrived on campus, she never doubted that it was the right decision.

Initially drawn to Hofstra’s strong school of business, small class sizes, and ideal location – close to New York City but nestled in the suburbs – Prisha quickly came to realize that the University had more to offer than she originally imagined.
What has truly made Hofstra special for Prisha is the faculty mentoring. After switching her major to business economics and adding a minor in cognitive science, she found that her professors not only supported her academic choices but actively encouraged her career interests in technology and artificial intelligence. She shared that she might never have followed the path she’s taken without their guidance.
Professors like Dr. Constantine Alexandrakis and Dr. Roberto Mazzoleni from the Economics Department, and Dr. Hafiz Asif from the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics, became invaluable mentors. They offered advice, research opportunities, and professional insight. Prisha said, “I worked closely with them on projects that helped me build skills I now use in my internship, where I’m currently developing an AI algorithm for a telecommunications company. The personal investment they made in my success is something I know I wouldn’t have found elsewhere.”
The sense of community is also something Prisha appreciates at Hofstra. “My peers are my biggest cheerleaders, motivating me to work harder, helping me through late-night study sessions, and encouraging my growth,” she said. “Whether we are pushing each other to do better or just offering emotional support, the friendships I’ve built at Hofstra will last a lifetime.”
Prisha explained that her favorite Hofstra memory isn’t about any single moment, but, instead, is about the process of discovering her academic and professional passions. “The confidence my professors had in me, even when I didn’t know a single line of code, helped me grow into someone who now sees a future in AI and software development,” she said. “Hofstra has given me the space, tools, and encouragement to pursue that dream.”
