I Got This

Nadya Svidzerskaya ’25

Four years ago, I took a leap of faith, leaving San Francisco to study finance on the East Coast. I knew I wanted a school that would push me, connect me to industry leaders, and provide opportunities that would shape my career. Hofstra did just that and more.

From day one, I felt the advantage of a close-knit community with big university resources. My professors knew my name and invested in my success. Through the Student Managed Investment Fund, I gained hands-on experience, traveled to conferences, and built a strong network. Hofstra’s career fairs and alumni connections helped me land internships in corporate finance and investment banking, and I secured a full-time role at Edgemont Partners, a healthcare investment bank in NYC, before my senior year even started!

Beyond academics, Hofstra became my home. From Fall Fest to casual campus hangouts, the friendships and memories I’ve made are irreplaceable. If you are looking for a place that will challenge and support you, I promise it is Hofstra, and you got this!

MORE ABOUT NADYA

When Nadya Svidzerskaya arrived at Hofstra from California, she was looking for more than just a business education – she wanted hands-on experience and a strong professional network to help launch her career in finance. What she found at Hofstra was even more than she imagined.

“Coming from the West Coast, I knew I wanted to study finance on the East Coast, and Hofstra’s location was perfect,” she said. “It’s close enough to New York City to offer amazing internship and networking opportunities but still has that traditional college campus feel.”

Nadya quickly became involved in Hofstra’s Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), a program that allows students to manage real investment portfolios and present at industry conferences. “Being part of SMIF gave me practical experience that most students don’t get until after graduation,” she said. “I was able to travel, meet professionals in the field, and gain skills that set me apart in interviews.”

And those skills paid off. Through the Hofstra Career and Internship Fair, Nadya landed an internship in corporate finance, which helped her transition into a strategy and transformation internship at SMBC, a major multinational bank. “That was my first experience commuting into the city for work, and it made my dream of working in New York finance feel real.”

Beyond the classroom, Nadya took advantage of study abroad opportunities, spending a semester in Madrid. “I took classes alongside students from all over the world and immersed myself in a completely different culture. It was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life.”

Now, as she prepares to graduate, Nadya is looking ahead to her next chapter. Thanks to Hofstra’s alumni network, she secured a full-time position as an investment banking analyst at Edgemont Partners, a healthcare investment bank in NYC. “Hofstra gave me the connections and confidence to make my career happen,” she said.

Her advice to future students? “Don’t hesitate to put yourself out there. The opportunities are here – you just have to go for them.”

» Nadya’s story isn’t unique. In fact, among Hofstra University’s 2022-2023 undergraduate degree recipients, 96% of alumni from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation. Results are based on data collected from the Alumni Outcomes survey, LinkedIn, National Student Clearinghouse, and Hofstra enrollment (88% knowledge rate).
