This Fall, we are asking interested students to submit a design for Hofstra University’s official 2023 holiday card. Open to all Hofstra students, entries were accepted until Thursday, October 19.
The grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card to the campus bookstore, and the runner-up will receive a $50 gift card. Entries will be judged by a panel of faculty and students in the Department of Fine Arts, Design and Art History. Winners will be notified by email on or before November 1. The winning artwork will be shared digitally and in print to the Hofstra campus community, alumni, and donors.
Contest Themes
Original artwork (no photography, Santa Claus or related depictions, religious themes or stock images) should include Hofstra’s blue and gold colors, and reflect any or all of the following themes:
- University life at Hofstra
- Winter (nature, activities, etc.)
- Hofstra University or Hofstra Pride symbolism
Who May Enter
Any Hofstra University student from any major or discipline may submit an entry. Submissions without the entry form will not be considered.
How to Enter
Entries will be accepted until Thursday, October 19. Artwork must be submitted electronically with completed entry form.
Design Specifications
- Artwork should fit standard card dimensions of 5" x 7" or 7" x 5". Your image resolution should be at least 300dpi and the file size shoud be under 100 MB.
- Acceptable file types are pdf, png, or jpg.
Artwork files may need to be adjusted to reflect final language, messaging and university brand standards. This could include margin adjustments that exclude parts of the artwork, language overlays, etc. Any other changes to the artwork itself will only be done in consultation with the student who submitted the artwork.
Reproduction Rights
Hofstra University will retain all reproduction rights to the artwork that is used for the holiday card. Artist grants Hofstra a nonexclusive irrevocable license to use the artwork for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to advertising or trade, and the unencumbered right to distribute, publish, exhibit, digitize, broadcast, display, reproduce, make commercial use directly or indirectly the artwork in all media by any manner and means, now or in the future.. Entries must be original work and must not infringe on the protected rights of other artists or violate any copyright laws.
Judging
All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History. Artwork will be judged on creativity, artistic expression, appropriateness, and how it applies the stated themes. The winner will be notified by email on or before Wednesday, November 1.
