Hofstra University's School of Health Sciences enthusiastically hosted a series of events spanning two weeks to commemorate the American Public Health Association's National Public Health Week. Students, faculty, staff, and community members actively participated in thought-provoking discussions and engaging activities addressing crucial topics such as gun violence, food insecurity, maternal health, healthy aging, and mental health. The events also provided interactive experiences in various disciplines including first aid & safety, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech pathology, audiology, and more.

Empowering Communities Through Education: A Spotlight on the Saltzman Community Services Center at Hofstra
Graduate students from the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center at Hofstra University showcased their work at a National Public Health Week event titled Clinical Grand Rounds. Seven students presented case studies from three of the center’s clinics: Psychological Evaluation Research and Counseling (PERC) Clinic, Counseling and Mental Health Professions Clinic, and Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic.
Student Winners Announced at 10th Annual Student Film Competition
Hofstra’s School of Health Sciences held its 10th annual student film competition as part of National Public Health Week. Teams of students competed for best short video, addressing topics such as mental health, health literacy, community safety, reckless driving, and food insecurity.
Caregiver Summit Focuses on Changing the Conversation
Hofstra’s School of Health Sciences held its first Caregiver Summit, co-sponsored by the AARP of Long Island, and the Nassau County Age Friendly Center of Excellence at Glen Cove, as part of November’s National Family Caregivers Month.

June Announced as Aphasia Awareness Month in NYS
Wendy C. Silverman MS-CCC-SLP, director of the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at Hofstra’s Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center, spoke at a recent press conference called by State Senator Steve Rhoads to formally recognize June as Aphasia Awareness Month in New York State.
