Bio

Professor Barbarello is an Adjunct Instructor of Writing Studies and Rhetoric. His teaching focuses on the formation of identity in response to societal, technological, and environmental forces and on writing in response to climate change. Professor Barbarello has also worked in the software and technology industry for over 25 years, focusing on andragogy and the challenges of professional training, business writing, global translation challenges, and institutional knowledge practices.

Teaching Interests

First-year writing, especially as a necessary process in identity and voice formation. How writing serves as a hedge against and an invitation to intellectual shape-shifting. Writing as an exploration and interrogation of spheres of oppression and power.

Research Interests

The rhetoric shaping humanity's response to technology and climate change. Re-evaluating the rhetoric of power in the face of existential threats and environmental justice. The relationships between science and belief, between the scientific method and faith.
