Bio
Vivien H. Abrams, LCAT, ATR-BC, CASAC, has been a faculty member at Hofstra University since 1996. She retired from South Oaks Hospital after 25 years of service, where she was an art therapist and a dual-diagnosis program coordinator. Ms. Abrams's areas of special interest include working with mentally ill patients who have a co-existing disorder of an addiction as well as with people who have experienced trauma, grief and loss. Ms. Abrams has been volunteering with The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) at Freeport, a local soup kitchen, and has been an active member of the Mental Health Players - an improvisational group sponsored by the Nassau County Mental Health Association that performs throughout Nassau County on issues relating to mental health and socially-challenging concerns. Ms. Abrams supervises interns and graduates, has a limited private practice, and enjoys doing nature photography and glass work.
