Bio
Dr. Lin received her Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in May 2015. Her dissertation entitled “Three Essays on Technology-enabled Healthcare and Health Management” was awarded the prestigious William W. Cooper Doctoral Dissertation Award at Carnegie Mellon University. Her dissertation aimed at using mobile health technology to promote consumer health behavior. She has contributed to the design of the smartphone application for healthy eating with theoretically driven behavioral interventions. She also has conducted a randomized field experiment to examine its impact on user engagement with the technology and healthy eating behavioral change. She has been working on research problems at the intersection of information technology, healthcare, and decision and behavioral sciences for ten years. Her early research was focused on improving the efficiency of care delivery in hospital settings by the use of information technologies, including RFID, electronic health records and electronic prescribing systems. She has recently expanded her interest to the consumer health informatics area by examining consumer engagement in health behavior change and mobile app usage. All of her research is built on successful collaborations with practices. For example, Dr. Lin has experience working with hospitals, including the CIO, outpatient clinics, emergency room, and inpatient units. She also has experience collaborating with the CEO and CIO of technology vendors and software vendors. With her robust training in information systems, business analytics, and behavioral economics, Dr. Lin is proficient at transforming theoretical knowledge to practical strategies for evaluating and developing information systems and technologies for healthcare management. The Digital Vaccine Project is one of her exciting projects. In this project, she evaluates the effect of a video game on children’s health behavior, contributing to the design of a digital vaccine.
