Bio

Hilary Topper is the CEO of HJMT Public Relations, a 32-year-old, award-winning public relations, and social media marketing firm. She started the firm in 1992 and represents national, regional, and local clients in all different industries including health, sports, banking, consumer products, and more. The firm is currently headquartered in Wantagh, N.Y., with a satellite office in Denver. Her firm has won numerous awards locally and nationally.

Professor Topper has written a host of articles for both PR trade and mainstream media. She is frequently quoted in the media as an expert in social media marketing. In addition to HJMT PR, Professor Topper has a media company, HJMT Media Company, LLC. She writes two blogs - https://www.HilaryTopper.com/, http://www.ATriathletesDiary.com, and has a weekly podcast for small business owners, "Hillary Topper on Air." Topper was an early adopter of social media and wearable technology.

Her first book, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Social Media but Were Afraid to Ask -- Building Your Business Using Consumer-Generated Media, was published in 2009. She wrote her second book in 2020, Branding in a Digital World. In addition, Professor Topper published her third book, From Couch Potato to Endurance Athlete - A Profile of a Non-Athletic Triathelete. She was also an original Google Glass explorer.

Prior to starting her own business, Topper worked at several public relations agencies, including Ogilvy & Mather PR, Hill, Holliday/PR, and Ruder Finn/PR. She also worked in the non-profit sector as director of public relations and fund development for two regional New York City non-profit organizations. Professor Topper holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public relations from Hunter College/CUNY and an MPA from Baruch College.
