Bio
Pei-Chi Su (Associate Professor/ Director of Costumes) is a costume designer and educator from Taiwan. As an active member of the professional theater community, Pei-Chi Su brings to Hofstra years of experience as a professional designer and technician with a diverse culture background. She loves being the bridge between concept and reality, empowering students to realize their visions. Her personal philosophy and professional inspiration are drawn from a lifelong commitment to education, beauty of individuality and the art of storytelling.
During her sabbatical in 2017, Pei-Chi Su was awarded a research grant from The Ministry of Education in Taiwan. Her research focused on design and construction of the costumes that combined technologies such as LED light elements and non-textile materials application. The Costume Exhibition "Eva Goma" showcased the work and received great feedback from participants of the 2017 World Stage Design Conference in Taipei.
Pei-Chi Su has designed over 120 productions in theater and dance since 2001. Internationally, her work has been part of shows at Garajistanbul in Istanbul, Theatre Rampe in Stuttgart, the Galway Arts Festival in Galway, Kaudo Art Festival in Taiwan, Hang-Tang Yuefu Dance Group in Festival d' Avignon in France and Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Korea. Regionally, frequent collaborators include the City theater, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Quantum Theatre, International Culture Lab, Pittsburgh Playhouse and Kitchen Theatre. In New York City, her designs have been seen at the Joe’s Club at the Public, 59E59 Theatre, Harkness Dance Festival, Danspace Project, Rabbit Hole Ensemble and Pan Asian Repertory.
Pei-Chi's work has been praised for the quality, style and creativeness by publications such as the New Yorker, New York Times, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, City Paper, Backstage and other independent media outlets.
