Bio

Shawn T. Thelen is the Robert E. Brockway Distinguished Professor of Marketing & International Business at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, Hofstra University. Dr. Shawn Thelen has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles focused on theory (e.g., Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science [Top 50 Journal on Financial Times Research List], European Journal of Marketing); practice (e.g., Business Horizons, Thunderbird International Business Review); and teaching/pedagogy (e.g., Marketing Education Review).

His research has been recognized on numerous occasions: Hofstra University Provost’s Office 2019 Fall Distinguished Faculty Lecture Series; Harvard Business Review Press; Marketing Education Review; and the American Marketing Association Academic Conference. Dr. Thelen has co-authored papers that have been cited 1,600+ times and downloaded more than 49,000 times. In addition, his research has been presented at numerous conferences.

Dr. Thelen has instructed EMBA, MBA, and undergraduate classes utilizing a variety of delivery modes including online, blended/flipped, and scrambled formats. He draws upon his industry experience working for Fortune 500 companies to cultivate an intersection of theory and practice in the classroom. Dr. Thelen favors being a “facilitator” in the classroom rather than being the “sage on the stage.”

He has been awarded the Frank G. Zarb School Business Dean’s Service Award, continues to serve on various committees, and reviews academic articles for numerous journals as a reviewer and editorial board member.

Dr. Thelen earned his PhD from Old Dominion University; an MIM from Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management; and his BSBA from University of Baltimore.

He volunteers as an EMT/chauffeur with the Vigilant Engine & Hook & Ladder Company in Great Neck, NY. Dr. Thelen is a returned Peace Corps volunteer [Russia, 1996-98], where he contributed to programs sponsored by the World Bank and IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board).
