Bio

Violinist Alexander Sharpe is an active performer and teacher in the New York area. In addition to his teaching at Hofstra, Mr. Sharpe was the First Violinist of the Hofstra String Quartet for 19 years, performing concerts on campus and across Long Island. He is the Associate Concertmaster of the New York City Chamber Orchestra, and performs with the Philharmonia Orchestra of New York, Orchestra Lumos, the Orchestra of the Oratorio Society of New York, and the Orchestras of the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Mr. Sharpe has performed in Broadway pit orchestras, as well as performing concerts in every major concert hall in New York. As a soloist, he toured the Puglia region of Italy performing in the concert series Camerata Musicale Salentina, and has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Hofstra Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Sharpe has been teaching at Hofstra University since 1997, and received his Bachelor of Music from the Mannes College of Music, his Master of Music from The Juilliard School and his Doctor of Musical Arts from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His principal teachers have included Sally Thomas, Lazar Gosman, and Ann Setzer.
