Bio

Gail Schwab is a Professor of French and currently the Senior Associate Dean for Curriculum and Personnel in the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a BA in French from Syracuse University, an MA in French from Hunter College of the City University of New York, and a PhD in French literature (dissertation on the novels of Gustave Flaubert) from Bryn Mawr College. Prior to joining the Hofstra faculty, she was Assistant Professor of French at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and Director of the Carleton semester-long study-abroad program in Pau, France. She has served as Chairperson of French, Chairperson of Romance Languages and Literatures, and Co-Director of Women's Studies. She is also Co-Director of the Luce Irigaray Circle. Dr. Schwab is the translator of Luce Irigaray's Parler n'est jamais neutre, and her recent publications include "Mothers, Sisters, and Daughters: Luce Irigaray and the Female Genealogical Line in the Stories of the Greeks," "Creating Inter-sexuate Inter-subjectivity in the Classroom: Luce Irigaray's Linguistic Research in Its Latest Iteration," and "The Ecology, Economy, and Politics of the One in Food Culture."
