Bio
I am currently a full professor in the Special Education in the SPE department. Early in my teaching career I taught in a self-contained special education class in the West Islip Public Schools. Later I worked in the Adelphi University program for students with learning disabilities. For the past 28 years I have taught at Hofstra University in the special education program, serving as Department Chair and as director of elementary special education programs.
Teaching Interests
My current teaching interests focus on preparing teacher candidates in the areas of IEP development, and the use of UDL and culturally responsive teaching in lesson planning and instruction.
Research Interests
My most recent publications show the increased importance that I have placed on cultural competence in teacher preparation. The articles addressing this topic focus on the evidence of cultural competence in preparation as well as the need for it in teacher education programs.
