Certificate Programs
- Educational Leadership, Advanced Certificate
This program (five semesters, 30 semester hours) is designed for educators who are preparing for entry-level leadership positions in public schools, and qualifies students for the New York State School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) certifications. The goal of the program is to prepare creative, flexible, visionary, and reflective elementary and secondary school educational administrators with the skills necessary to facilitate and improve the quality of learning for all students. Toward this end, students complete the required sequence of courses as a learning community and engage in class and field-based experiential learning projects designed to develop important leadership skills. In addition to coursework, administrative candidates complete three semesters of supervised internships in multiple settings tailored to individual career objectives. This certificate program is also fully transferable to the Doctor of Education (EdD) program in educational and policy leadership. - School District Business Leader, Advanced Certificate
This certificate program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a fiscally sound school district within the parameters established by New York State and the local school system. The program consists of 15 or 38 credits, depending on prior education and certification status. This advanced certification is suitable for current educational administrators who wish to develop expertise in the business and financial aspects of a school district organization. It is also fitting for individuals, with or without prior experience in education, who seek preparation for school district business leadership positions. Completion of this program qualifies the graduate for the New York State School District Business Leader (SDBL) certificate.
Master's-Level Programs
- Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, MSEd
The 36-credit MSEd in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program provides an interdisciplinary exploration of important foundational and policy issues in education and a basic introduction to educational leadership across multiple settings. In particular, this program meets the needs of educators in non-public school settings, such as museums, corporate divisions, nursery schools, etc. - Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies, MSEd
The 36-credit MSEd in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies program provides an interdisciplinary exploration of important foundational and policy issues and an introduction to educational leadership in higher education settings. The program provides flexible course delivery methods to meet the diverse needs of students. Students can complete degree requirements on-site, online, or a combination of on-site and online courses. A distance learning (DL) class is equivalent to its on-site version.
Doctoral Study
- Educational and Policy Leadership, EdD
The program in Educational and Policy Leadership, leading to the Doctor of Education (EdD) degree, is designed for educators in pre-K-12 settings who wish to develop the conceptual understanding and advanced leadership skills needed to create organizational learning environments to address inequities, optimize teacher performance, and maximize student learning. Candidates work in learning communities with faculty to gain a deeper understanding of themselves as educational leaders and to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for visionary, collaborative, strategic, and ethical leadership in schools, districts, and alternative settings.
