Careers & Partnerships

Hofstra prepares you to be certified in both early childhood (birth-grade 2) and childhood (grades 1-6) education. On-campus, there are research and training opportunities at our Saltzman Community Service Center, which offers child care and other services to the community.

Additionally, Hofstra has a unique partnership with the Farmingdale School District in which newly certified Early Childhood Education graduates complete their first year of teaching in the district's universal pre-K program.

When can I start the program?

Candidates are accepted to start the MSEd program in Fall and Spring terms only.

When are classes offered?

Courses are offered in person between 4:30-6:20PM and 6:30-8:20PM meeting once per week. This schedule is well suited for our students as they participate in field placement and student teaching during the program.

How long does it take to complete the program?

Students can expect to complete the MSEd 2 to 3 years total depending on their enrollment as a full time or part time student.

Can students work while enrolled in the program?

Candidates will need to coordinate a schedule with their employer that suits their course schedule as well as their growing commitment to participating in field placement hours steadily through the program. Students will participate in 150 clock hours of field placement, culminating in their final semester of full time student teaching, where maintaining a full time position will not be as possible. Students can work with their program to explore options including paid internships and other opportunities that would complement the program.

Do I need to have a background in education to apply?

Candidates can pursue this degree program from all backgrounds. New York State will require certain Liberal Arts coursework to be completed, but this does not equate to having a certain major or significant coursework in any one subject area.
