Scholarships

All graduate applications are reviewed for merit-based scholarships by the counseling program director and are distributed on a competitive basis to eligible applicants. No additional materials are needed outside of the application in order to be considered.

Continuing students may apply for additional scholarships and are alerted when this opportunity arises during the semester.

Hale Family Annual Scholarship: Renewed scholarship opportunity for a NEW fall 2022 Mental Health Counseling, MA student who has interest and commitment to substance use disorder counseling. Further details will be provided by the counseling program director upon admission into the program.

External Scholarship Opportunities

  • The Melanie Foundation Scholarship: The Melanie Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a mental health graduate program accredited by CACREP, APA, CSWE, or ACGME. Applicants must also have volunteer or research experience in a relevant field. The scholarship awards $2,500 to the selected student.

  • William white scholarship: The William White Scholarship is funded by the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) and is awarded to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for addiction studies or an addiction-related field. Applicants must have completed at least one full year and have a GPA of 2.7-3.0 or higher. Applicants must also be current NAADAC members. The scholarship awards $2,000 for their graduate student selection.

  • Marie C. Quinn Memorial Scholarship: The Marie C. Quinn Memorial Scholarship is funded by The Nassau Counselors Association for students who are attending school, interning, or living in Nassau County while enrolled in a master’s degree counseling program. Applicants must be a member of the Nassau Counselor’s Association. The scholarship awards $4,000 to a student who has completed at least 12 graduate credits.

  • NBCC Military Scholarship: The National Board for Certified Counselors Foundation (NBCCF) Scholarship awards an $8,000 scholarship to an honorably discharged veteran, an active member of the military, or the spouse of a veteran or active duty member who is enrolled in a CACREP-accredited master’s program. Applicants must plan to apply for the National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential and commit to providing mental health services to service members and/or veterans within a year of graduating for a total of two years.

  • NBCC Minority Master’s Fellowship (Addiction): NBCC Fellowship awards a $15,000 scholarship to an applicant who is enrolled in an accredited master’s program and demonstrates knowledge in addressing substance abuse in minority communities. Applicants must commit to providing mental health services to serving those communities for two years within a year after graduation. It is not limited to minorities but prioritizes individuals from the following demographics: African American, Alaska Native, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander.

Financial Aid

Applicants are encouraged to speak with representatives in the Office of Student Financial Services, at 516-463-8000, to inquire about need-based aid and other resources to finance their degree. Matriculated students may also apply for a variety of campus jobs, which are continually updated on the Hofstra portal.
