The Child and Parent Psychotherapy Service Clinic offers a Child Intervention Program, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, and Parent Intervention and Consultation.
Child Intervention Program
The Child Intervention Program provides individual psychotherapy sessions and conjoint parent-child sessions offering behavior therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, and play therapy. The program offers treatments for aggressive behaviors; defiance/oppositional behaviors; impulsivity; mood swings; obsessive/compulsive behaviors; panic, phobia, and general anxiety; sadness; school and test anxiety; separation difficulties; shyness and inhibitions; and worries and fears.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a specialized positive and intensive program for children ages 2 to 7 and their parents, designed to enrich the quality of their relationship, reduce parenting stress, and improve overall child behavior. PCIT is appropriate for families with child relationship problems and highly stressed parents who have children with adjustment problems, aggressive behaviors, attention difficulties, oppositional and defiance problems, separation anxiety, and social difficulties. Treatment techniques include behavioral parent consultation, behavior therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, mindfulness and acceptance commitment therapies, parent training programs, and video-based parent training programs.
Parent Intervention and Consultation
Parent Intervention and Consultation offers individual and/or group psychotherapy sessions to help parents overcome their own emotional challenges; improve the parent-child relationship; learn child management techniques; reduce the impact of stress associated with parenting and teach parents to help their child develop better emotion and behavior management strategies. Treatment techniques include behavioral parent consultation, behavior therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, mindfulness and acceptance commitment therapies, parent training programs for child management, and video-based parent training programs.
