PLEASE NOTE: All recommendations should be emailed directly to the staff contact noted on your application.

Each year, Hofstra alumni and friends contribute to scholarships to help today's students. For a list of scholarships through Student Financial Services, go to Scholarships.

Several alumni affinity groups within the Hofstra University Alumni Organization provide scholarship support to students. These include:

Criteria: Offspring of Hofstra University alumni. Scholarships based on financial need* and/or scholastic achievement and/or outstanding participation in extracurricular activities.

**For Class of 1951 Scholarship, preference is given to undergraduate students who are grandchildren of the members of the Class of 1951.


Alpha Theta Beta Alumnae Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a qualified undergraduate sister who has completed three semesters as an active member in Alpha Theta Beta Sorority, Inc., and is based on scholastic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities.


Black/Hispanic Alumni Annual Scholarship

Criteria: Must be an undergraduate Hofstra University student who has completed 24 undergraduate credits at Hofstra and be of African American, Caribbean American, African or Hispanic descent. Recommended based on academic potential and/or financial need.*  


Black/Hispanic Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Must be an undergraduate Hofstra University student. Recommended based on academic potential and/or financial need* with the ability to enhance diversity at the University, as demonstrated by diverse life experiences and/or previous experience bringing diverse people together. 


Booster Alumni Endowed Spirit Scholarship

Criteria: Scholarship awarded to a student that is a sophomore, junior, or senior in standing at the start of the fall 2020 semester. The student must be an active member of one of the following groups for at least one academic year; Cheerleading Squad, Kickline/Dance Team, Pep Band, Twirling Corps or Mascots. Demonstrated school spirit, enthusiasm, and participation in the student spirit groups are required. Minimum of a 2.7 grade point average at the time of application.


Crown and Lance Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Must be an undergraduate student(s). Scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement and social engagement. Preference will be given to descendants of Crown and Lance alumni.  


Dance Alumni Association/Lance Westergard Annual Dance Award

Criteria: This award is granted to an outstanding dance major or dance education major. Preference is given to a student who has completed their junior year and intends to have a professional career in or related to dance. The award may be applied to costs other than tuition including other academic expenses, fees, books, lab fees, etc.


Delta Chi Delta Sorority Alumnae Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Provides financial assistance to the children or grandchildren, or other members, of a Delta Chi Delta alumna. Student(s) must have completed a minimum of two semesters at Hofstra University at the time of the application. A minimum of one award, and no more than four, will be given to the undergraduate and graduate students. Minimum of a 2.5 grade point average is required.


Epsilon Sigma Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student(s) who is selected based on academic achievement or potential, with preference given to an Epsilon Sigma fraternity member or descendant. This award may be used for costs other than tuition.


Florence M. Glaser Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to matriculated undergraduate or graduate students at Hofstra University who are honorably discharged veterans, or children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of honorably discharged veterans. Selected based on demonstrated economic need* or scholastic achievement or potential.


Frank G. Zarb School of Business Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: The award is granted to a qualified Zarb School of Business student who will be selected based on demonstrated financial need* as well as academic achievement and potential.


Gunnar H. Esiason Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a full-time, undergraduate, matriculated student at Hofstra University who has or has had a personal challenge in dealing with cystic fibrosis, through the student's own condition or that of a family member, or whose demonstrated service and commitment to the prevention and cure of cystic fibrosis is exemplary. The scholarship is awarded by the Hofstra University Office of Financial Aid upon the recommendation of the Department of Student Activities. High school seniors who have been admitted to Hofstra University and meet the requirements are eligible to apply.


Gray Wig Alumni Scholarships - There are six (6) scholarships and each will be awarded by the Hofstra University Office of Financial Aid.

Adele and William A. Stein Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a qualified theatre arts major selected based on academic achievement or potential and demonstrated financial need*.

Albert L. "Tank" Passuello Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a qualified student majoring in drama selected based on demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.

Dolan Family Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a deserving junior or senior theater arts major selected based on academic achievement or potential and demonstrated financial need*.

Gray Wig Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a qualified technical drama student selected based on demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.

Janet Fraser Rosano Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a qualified student majoring in drama or music selected based on demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.

Jim Fellman Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a qualified student majoring in music selected based on demonstrated economic need* as well as scholastic achievement or potential.


Hofstra Pride Club (numerous scholarships)


Hofstra University Alumni Organization/George M. Bossert Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: The scholarship is awarded to a deserving graduate student(s) who works in the Office for Alumni Affairs.


The Jeffrey C. Kraus Endowed Radio Award 

Criteria: Awarded each spring to Hofstra students based upon their talent in and commitment to radio. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 is required. All applicants must be attending Hofstra University in the fall 2023 semester, and be either a full participating member of WRHU or a Communications Audio Major. The scholarship is awarded by Hofstra University and the Office of Financial Aid upon the recommendation of the HRAA Award Committee.

The Marc Wiener Award is again being presented this year to up to two WRHU station members for the 2023-2024 school year, in honor of alumnus Marc Wiener, who served as the President of the Hofstra Radio Alumni Association for many years and is a member of the Hofstra Radio Hall of Fame.

Applicants for the Wiener Award must demonstrate interest in one of the following criteria:  

  • Interest in the art and technology of engineering
  • Interest in the role music plays in audio content
  • Interest in the integration of technology and broadcasting

John Cranford Adams Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to outstanding full-time students who have completed at least 58 semester hours; 50 hours must be in residence. This scholarship, established by the Hofstra Alumni Association to honor President Emeritus John Cranford Adams, may be renewed. Each recipient is named a John Cranford Adams Scholar.


Q-8 Alumni Association Walter A. Klein Memorial Endowed Award

Criteria: This award is granted to a Hofstra University student with a minimum 2.5 grade point average, who is an active member of the Pershing Rifles Company Q-8 in good standing as verified by the Military Science Department. Preference will be given to non-scholarship ROTC cadets. This award is renewable as long as the student remains in good standing and may be applied to housing and/or books.

Sigma Pi Alumni Association - The Joseph Ades Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is awarded to one or more Hofstra students who are 1) descendants of Sigma Pi Fraternity International members or 2) members of a Hofstra chapter of a fraternity in good standing. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.* The recipients must have successfully completed 25 undergraduate credits at Hofstra and achieved a minimum 2.0 grade point average. In addition, the students must demonstrate outstanding commitment to the Hofstra University community.


Stephen B. Carlin/Walter W. Rudolph Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to direct descendant of an honorably discharged "in country" Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Military Services, or the applicant is a direct descendant of an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Military Services with "in-country" service in Afghanistan or Iraq since 1991, or the applicant is a direct descendant of an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Military Services and the applicant has demonstrated outstanding academic, cocurricular and community involvement, and/or financial need. Those senior high school students who have been accepted to Hofstra University and meet the requirements may apply.


The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a deserving Hofstra University junior who has completed a total of 57 credits at Hofstra University, studying any field in communication. Student is selected based on academic achievement or potential, and demonstrated financial need.*


Veterans Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to matriculated undergraduate or graduate students at Hofstra University who are honorably discharged veterans, or children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of honorably discharged veterans. Selected based on demonstrated economic need* or scholastic achievement or potential.


*Financial/economic need is calculated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Hofstra University's school code is 002732.
