Our graduates have very varied and rewarding career paths. Some entered directly into their new careers while others furthered their education at graduate schools across the world. Before embarking on graduate school, some entered programs such as the Peace Corps and Teach for America. Others volunteered in the Amazon, taught English in Korea, or worked as congressional aides or on election campaigns.
One of our core beliefs is that happy students become successful graduates. As a recent graduate commented:
"Words cannot describe how truly thankful I am for what this department has done and I can tell you right now, other students feel the same way. …" Alum, 2016
We work hard to develop meaningful relationships with our students, providing constant career guidance while at Hofstra and beyond. As one of our graduates comments,
"… I joined the newly formed department as one of their first Global Studies majors. I went on to become a double major, an aide in the department, and a peer teacher. I had the pleasure of watching the department grow, strengthen, and develop before my eyes. Most importantly though, I found a home there, a place where I was able to create meaningful relationships with professors. A place where I was constantly engaged with opportunities and meaningful discussions, and most importantly where I found a subject I was extremely passionate about. My time spent in the Global Studies and Geography Department most certainly led me to where I am now. The professors motivated me to reach far and beyond a point where I thought my academic career would have ever taken me…" Rebecca, 2011
The education that students received in our department prepared them for the rewarding careers in the global marketplace. As a past graduate noted:
"…As a result of my experience in the Geography program and the support of the staff, I was able to travel to Senegal for two months and Amsterdam for five months while I was enrolled at Hofstra… Today, I am a vice president at a multi-national tech company with employees in seven countries, as well as a proud Hofstra alum, both thanks to the amazing people at Hofstra's Geography Department." Michelle, 2007
As a department, we work with our students to help them build meaningful and productive post-graduation careers and are very proud of the achievements of our alumni.
