What are the camp hours?
Our summer operating hours are Monday through Friday 9-4pm.
How does your scheduling work?
Hofstra Summer Camps offers programs that run for 1 week or 2 weeks spanning a 7-week period. This allows campers to explore a variety of options that create flexibility in summer planning. Sports Academy runs on 1-week sessions, while all other programming consists of 2-week sessions.
How do you staff your programs?
Hofstra Summer Camps vets all our staff members and they are cleared to work by Hofstra’s Human Resources department.
What is the swim program like?
Sports Academy campers have the opportunity for a (non-instructional) swim twice a week. Daily instruction in our American Red Cross swim program is provided to all other campers. Campers who participate in the Gifted, Sports Broadcasting, and CAP programs do not have swim as part of their schedule. All campers who participate in programs at Barry Tech and LIHSA do not have swim as part of their camp experience.
What should my camper bring to camp?
All campers should have a water bottle and sunscreen. For those campers who are swimming, they should also have a bathing suit and a towel with them every day. We kindly ask that valuables and large devices are left at home.
Is Hofstra Summer Camps accredited?
Yes! We are accredited by the American Camp Association, the governing board for day and residential camps.
Do you provide lunch?
Compass Catering, Hofstra’s premier food provider, prepares and serves lunch to our campers on main campus. Campers enjoy healthy, balanced meals with many options to choose from. Lunch is also provided to campers at Barry Tech through their food services.
Do you provide safe food for campers with allergies?
Compass Catering prepares and serves safe alternatives to those campers with allergies or dietary restrictions. Hofstra Summer Camps is a nut-aware campus.
Where do I access the lunch menu?
Sample menus are available for review prior to camp begins here. Once camp is in session, the finalized menu will be on our website and shared with families by email.
What happens if my camper gets sick or injured during the day?
Hofstra Summer Camps partners with the Wellness Center on campus that also partners with Northwell Health. Our on-site registered nurses and EMTs are trained to provide medical aid and assistance to all campers. Additionally, our registered nurses can administer medication as long as the medication and doctor’s orders are on site.
What types of safety measures are in place during the camp day?
Hofstra Summer Camps partners with the Public Safety Department during the summer. We also have two officers dedicated to supporting the movement of campers around campus, as well as during arrivals and dismissal.
Can I come visit my camper during the camp day?
To ensure the safety of our campers and community, we cannot allow parent visits during the camp day. If you need to see your camper or pick them up during the camp day, please contact our main office.
Do you provide transportation?
We serve Nassau County as well as parts of Queens, Suffolk, and Manhattan. Door-to-door and area pickups are available depending on the camper’s place of residence. Transportation is provided for most of our programs or can be added for an additional fee.
