Scholarships

  • Merit-based scholarships are awarded up to $22,000 per year. Click here to see our Scholarship Award Breakdown.
  • All applicants for admission are considered for these awards.
  • Priority is given to students who complete their application by March 1st for the fall and November 1st for the spring.
  • Scholarships are determined by the GPA earned at the time of admission.

Subject to Review Eligibility

  • All transfer students who have completed a minimum of 24 credits are reviewed for scholarships.
  • For a student who has earned less than 24 credits (after high school), the student’s high school information is also considered when determining scholarship awards.
  • The student must currently be in attendance or have previously attended an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • GPA requirements for scholarship awards are cumulative among all colleges attended.

Girl Scout Gold Award

The Girl Scout Gold Award is awarded to first-year or transfer students who have received the Girl Scout Gold Award within three (3) years of application to the University. For first-year students: You must be in the top 10% of your high school graduating class and have attained at least a composite score of 1070 on the SAT or 23 on the ACT. For transfer students: You must have completed a minimum of 24 credits at a previously accredited institution(s) and earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher at all previously attended schools. Preference is given to a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient from Long Island, NY. The award amount varies and is renewable each year provided the student meets the renewal criteria as outlined in the Undergraduate Bulletin. Students must submit a copy of their Gold Award certificate and a letter from the Girl Scouts indicating the date the award was received by May 1st to: Hofstra University, Office of Financial Aid, 202 Memorial Hall, Hempstead, NY 11549. Funding is limited, so those individuals who submit prior to the deadline are given priority consideration.


Phi Theta Kappa
The International Honor Society of the Two-Year College

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $2,500 per year

Special consideration is given to full-time students who hold membership in Phi Theta Kappa and meet the established requirements of a 3.5 GPA with 60 accepted transfer credits upon entry to Hofstra University. A letter of recommendation from the applicant's community college is required by May 1st in order to be considered for this award. Please send this letter to the address indicated below. Funding is limited, so those who submit prior to the deadline are given priority consideration. The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is available for students entering Hofstra University in the fall semester only.

The Stay on Long Island Initiative Scholarship: Suffolk County Community College

The following outlines the terms and procedures, agreed upon by both Hofstra University (HU) and Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) pertinent to the Stay on Long Island Initiative Scholarship for graduates of Suffolk County Community College.

  • One (1) Stay on Long Island Initiative Scholarship, covering full tuition, will be offered by HU to one (1) graduate of SCCC.
  • The nominees for this scholarship must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better at the end of their third semester at SCCC. In addition to superior academic achievement, selection will be based on contributions to their campus and communities through activities and service and on their student leadership experiences.
  • Nominee recommendations would be sent by SCCC to Hofstra no later than March 15.
  • Notification to the recipient would be made by HU by the beginning of April.
  • The award would cover a maximum of four semesters.
  • The scholarship shall be renewable annually by maintenance of a 2.8 cumulative average. The recipient is required to submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for each year of study at HU.
  • The scholarship recipient must attend HU on a full-time basis (at least 12 credits) as a matriculated student for consecutive fall and spring semesters. The Stay on Long Island Initiative Scholarship is applied to tuition only and is not applied to miscellaneous college fees and books.
  • Other nominees (at least two students) recommended by SCCC, but not selected for the Scholarship Program, would be eligible for a significant merit scholarship at HU based on their outstanding GPA.

Provost Academic Excellence Scholarship: Nassau Community College

The following outlines the terms and procedures, agreed upon by both Hofstra University (HU) and Nassau Community College (NCC), pertinent to the Provost Academic Excellence Scholarship for graduates of Nassau Community College.

  • One (1) Provost Academic Excellence Scholarship, covering full tuition, will be offered by HU to one (1) graduate of NCC transferring to Hofstra with a minimum 3.8 GPA.
  • The selection of the scholarship recipient would be made by Hofstra from a list of no fewer than three nominees recommended by Nassau Community College.
  • Nominee recommendations would be sent by NCC to Hofstra no later than March 1st.
  • Notification to the recipient would be made by HU by the beginning of April.
  • The award would cover a maximum of four semesters.
  • The scholarship shall be renewable annually by maintenance of a 2.8 cumulative average. The recipient is required to submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for each year of study at HU.
