2024 Welcome Week T-Shirt Contest

Calling All Creative Minds: Design the Ultimate First-Year T-Shirt

This spring, we are asking interested students to submit a design for a t-shirt given to all of Hofstra University’s incoming Class of 2028. Open to all Hofstra students, entries will be accepted until Friday, May 31, 2024. Original artwork must be submitted electronically with a completed entry form.

The grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card to the campus bookstore, and the runner-up will receive a $50 gift card. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts. Winners will be notified by email on or before Monday, July 1, 2024. The winning artwork will be shared digitally and will be used on t-shirts given out at Welcome Week 2024.

Contest Guidelines

Original line artwork (no photography or stock images) should be in either black and gold or white and gold (the design will be printed on a blue T-shirt.)

There is no required theme, so be creative. One possibility is “What does Hofstra mean to me?”

Do not include any of the following:

  • The Hofstra logo (it will be included on the shirt)
  • Any copyright-protected materials (including characters and brand trademarks)
  • Any content that goes against Hofstra’s Community Standards

Who May Enter

Any Hofstra University student from any major or discipline may submit an entry. Submissions without the entry form will not be considered.

How to Enter

Entries will be accepted until Friday, May 31, 2024.  Artwork must be submitted electronically with completed entry form.

Design Specifications

  1. Artwork should fit inside dimensions of 8.5” x 11”. Your image resolution should be at least 300dpi and the file size should be under 100 MB.
  2. Acceptable file types are PNG, JPG or PDF.

    Artwork files may need to be adjusted to reflect final language, messaging and university brand standards. This could include margin adjustments that exclude parts of the artwork, language overlays, etc. Any other changes to the artwork itself will only be done in consultation with the student who submitted the artwork.

Reproduction Rights

Hofstra University will retain all reproduction rights to the artwork that is used for the t-shirt. Artist grants Hofstra a nonexclusive irrevocable license to use the artwork for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to advertising or trade, and the unencumbered right to distribute, publish, exhibit, digitize, broadcast, display, reproduce, make commercial use directly or indirectly the artwork in all media by any manner and means, now or in the future throughout the world in perpetuity.  Entries must be original work and must not infringe on the protected rights of other artists or otherwise contain any third party copyrighted material. Artist acknowledges that nothing contained herein shall in any way obligate the University to use the Artwork in any manner.

Judging

All entries will be reviewed by a panel of experts.  Artwork will be judged on creativity, artistic expression, and appropriateness. The winner will be notified by email on or before Monday, July 1, 2024.
