Do you see yourself designing roads and bridges, constructing skyscrapers and transportation hubs, or developing dams and complex water treatment projects? A degree in civil engineering will let you solve real-world problems that improve the lives of others.
Curriculum
Pursue either a BS in Civil Engineering or a BE in Engineering Science (Civil Option), and choose between a focus on structural or environmental engineering. Both career paths are in high demand throughout the world.
Challenging Coursework
You'll build a foundation in universal engineering theories, mathematics, and the physical sciences before moving on to more challenging courses in your area of interest, such as:
- Transportation Engineering
- Civil Engineering Design
- Design of Steel Structures
- Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources
- Soil Mechanics and Foundations
- Engineering Drawing
Equipped for the Future
Your degree will prepare you for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and enable you to pursue becoming licensed as a professional engineer (P.E.).
You can also advance to management positions in leading engineering and technology firms with graduate study in programs such as Hofstra's Master of Science in Engineering Management.
Learn from Experts
Meet Dr. Ted Segal
Civil engineering professor Edward Segal, PhD, and 11 of his students won first place in a sustainable design competition, creating a pavilion using dried clay and melted aluminum that was exhibited on Governor’s Island in New York City.
Among his accomplishments, Dr. Segal won a national award for teaching excellence from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2017.
The Student Experience
