Curriculum
Students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or a minor in Africana Studies, and learn about the identities, history, geography, language, politics, economics, and cultural experience of the African people, as well as Black peoples in the Americas and Europe. Learn how Africa's natural resources are fueling the economies of the developing world. Hofstra also offers study abroad opportunities.

Meet the Director
Veronica Akinyi Lippencott, PhD, is adjunct associate professor of Global Studies and Geography and associate director of Hofstra’s Center for “Race,” Culture, and Social Justice. Her research interests include exploring the geographic diffusion of HIV/AIDS in Kenya, which was highlighted in the PBS documentary series, The Power of Place: Geography in the 21st Century.
