STUDENT ENROLLMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND SUCCESS
Many Traditions. One Hofstra Community.
The Hofstra University Interfaith Center supports the spiritual well-being of all students and members of the Pride. Through campus activities, religious services, and secular meditation, the Center offers space for reflection, connection, and community.
Interfaith chaplains provide confidential guidance and informal counseling to members of the Hofstra community. Visit the chaplains in Room 213 of the Student Center or email deanofstudents@hofstra.edu for more information.
What is the Interfaith Center?
The Interfaith Center at Hofstra University brings together Jewish, Muslim, Protestant, and Roman Catholic chaplains and their ministries. These professional religious leaders serve the University and are accountable to Hofstra, their sponsoring faith organizations, and the values of their traditions.
Chaplains support students, faculty, staff, and the broader Long Island community through programs and services. While each chaplain primarily serves their own faith community, all share a commitment to the well-being of the entire Hofstra community.
Students are also encouraged to explore religion academically through courses offered by the Religion Department. The study of religion deepens understanding of one’s own tradition and others, builds religious literacy, and fosters dialogue in an increasingly interconnected world.
Mission
The Interfaith Center’s mission is to promote spiritual awareness and growth, participation in the activities of faith traditions, as well as understanding and cooperation among the religions of the world.
Goals
- Build and sustain bridges of understanding, respect, and appreciation in our multifaith and multicultural community;
- Advocate for justice, peace, and the care of our planet;
- Promote intellectual exploration and mutual dialogue on religious issues;
- Organize gatherings of the Hofstra University community on occasions of communal celebration or grief.
