Refund Schedule

Refund Policy for Housing Payments

If you choose not to live in the Hofstra University residence halls, you must notify the Office of Residential Programs in writing by May 1 for the fall semester and January 1 for the spring semester. At that time your $300 deposit will be credited to your University account. All requests for refunds must be made in writing through the Office of Residential Programs. The student must complete a withdrawal form and properly check out of his/her room to avoid further billing. Housing fees are non-refundable.

Deposit Refunds:
If a student voluntarily moves out of a residence hall during the first week of classes the $300 deposit is forfeited.

Dining Plan Refunds:
Dining plan payments will be refunded on a prorated basis.

Housing Refunds:
Students vacating residence during week one receive a 100 percent refund of their housing payments; a 75 percent refund for week two; a 50 percent refund for weeks three and four; a 25 percent refund for weeks five and six. After the sixth week of the semester, no refund is given. In the case of extenuating circumstances, a letter outlining the reasons for withdrawal should be forwarded to the Office of Residential Programs.
Extenuating circumstances must be circumstances out of the control of the student and circumstances for which the student could not plan. No refunds, including room, meal plans or fees, will be allocated to students who are removed from the residence halls for having violated a community standard as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. In addition, refunds are not granted based upon a student not receiving their room/building preference.
