The Department of Public Safety is located on the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and California Avenue in the town of Hempstead, in the state of New York.

Where do I go if I lost/found an item on campus?

A:

To claim lost property or to turn in something found on campus, go to the Department of Public Safety.

Who do I call in an emergency?

A:

Contact the Department of Public Safety for any emergency (medical, fire or police) at (516) 463-6789. If you are off campus, dial 911.

What do I do if I find that my car is missing, towed, booted or disabled?

What do I do if I lose my Hofstra ID?

A:

In the event that you lose your HofstraCard or it is stolen, please report it to the Office of HofstraCard Services immediately by calling (516) 463-6942. When calling, we will need to know your name, account number and approximate date of loss or theft. Your card will be deactivated upon notification for all on-campus purposes. When reprinting a card, the photograph currently on file will be used. There will be a $10 replacement fee to obtain a new card. Once you receive the new card, please go to the library so they may reactivate your bar code. You may also report a lost or stolen card through this Web page by clicking the link below to e-mail the HofstraCard Services Office.

Do I need to register my vehicle with the Department of Public Safety?

Anyone who parks a motor vehicle on University grounds is required to register his/her vehicle.

Does the University provide campus transportation for its students?

A:

Hofstra University operates two courtesy buses 24 hours a day for the convenience of the Hofstra community. The bus schedule is designed to give optimum service to those who may need transportation around campus and to other designated locations.
