Auditions

*Additional auditions for Hofstra Entertainment and The Gray Wig's production of 42nd Street*

Tuesday, May 19th- 7:30pm

Please prepare 16 bars of a traditional Broadway show tune and bring tap and character shoes.

All roles still open.

**Special note-we are especially looking for a Dorothy Brock!

Final casting will be announced May 24th.

42nd Street Show Information:

Show Dates:

  • Friday, August 14, 21 and 28 at 8pm
  • Saturday, August 15, 22 and 29 at 8pm, and
  • Sunday, August 16, 23 and 30 at 2pm.

John Cranford Adams Playhouse, Hofstra University.

Rehearsals will begin June 15th. Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturdays. Not everyone will be called to all rehearsals. Please be prepared to inform us of any conflicts at the time of auditions.

Character Breakdown:

*The Ensemble: The Star of the Show*- (16 to 40 age range). Must Tap. There are 14 additional character roles that are spread out within the singing/moving ensemble for all the available age ranges. Along with this there are “specialty” dancing parts available for both young ladies and men of the huge ensemble.

  • Dorothy Brock *(40 to 55 age range). Established Broadway star. Torch belt/moves.
  • Peggy Sawyer *(young 20s looking). Talented and hopeful. High belt/sings and taps.
  • Maggie Smith *(30 to 40 age range). Co-Author of “Pretty Lady”. High belt/moves.
  • Anne Reilly (Anytime Annie) *(25 to 30-something age range). High energy chorus girl. High belt/sings and taps.
  • Julian Marsh *(mid-40s age range).Broadway show director. High baritone/moves.
  • Bert Barry *(30 to 40 age range). Co-Author of “Pretty Lady”. High tenor/moves.
  • Billy Lawlor *(20-something looking).Tenor lead of “Pretty Lady”. High tenor/sings and taps.
  • Andy Lee (20 to 40-something age range). Choreographer. Sings and taps.
  • Mac (30 to 40-something age range). Stage manager. Sings and moves
  • Pat Denning *(40s age range). Dorothy’s love interest. Non-singer/non-dancer.
  • Abner Dillon *(50 something age range).“Angel” for Pretty Lady. Sings/moves a little.
  • Oscar: Ideal candidate would be capable of assisting the musical director, as well as being an excellent pianist and good singer...no tap dancing necessary.
